The highly desirable county of Cheshire is scattered with picture postcard villages and towns, beautiful countryside and forests, historic mansions and one of Britains most stunning cities. The more rural nature of Cheshire along with its good schools, central location and excellent transport links makes the county a popular location for commuters working in Manchester and Liverpool.
The county town of Chester is without doubt one of Britains most stunning and historic cities. Originally founded as the Roman fort of Deva, the city grew to be a major commercial centre during the medieval period and the administrative capital of the county. The city is surrounded by the most complete city walls in Britain and the Medieval Rows in the centre are unique to Chester. The Roodee racecourse is both Britains oldest and smallest racecourse, while the Eastgate clock is the second most photographed in the country after Big Ben. Along with its beauty, Chesters good schools and proximity to the hills and beaches of north Wales make it a highly desirable place to live.
The towns of Knutsford and Wilmslow and the neighbouring villages of Mere, Alderley Edge and Prestbury form the heart of an area known locally as the Golden Triangle, so called because of the number of business executives, sports, television and film stars that live in the area. The area is a hive of boutique shops, restaurants and bars as well as luxury car dealers including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin and McLaren. Property in the area ranges from quaint village centre terraces to spectacular mansions. The area is also blessed with excellent golf courses, riding stables and polo clubs. Tatton Park and Hall in Knutsford is one of the National Trusts most beautiful parks and hosts the largest RHS show outside London.
Warrington, Cheshires largest town, was originally founded by the Romans as a strategic crossing point of the river Mersey. In the modern day, being halfway between Liverpool and Manchester, Warrington is the centre of the regions road and rail network and one of Europes fastest growing towns. The areas around the suburban villages of Stockton Heath and Lymm are highly desirable for commuters and served by some of the top state schools in the region.
